Sumifly® – Biological Insecticide for Thrips and Whiteflies
Product Description
Sumifly® is a biological insecticide in the BioWorks portfolio, based on a naturally occurring fungus: Cordyceps fumosorosea (also known as Isaria fumosorosea), strain FE 9901.
This strain is particularly effective against various species of whiteflies and thrips, targeting the pest at multiple life stages – from egg to larva to adult. Direct contact with the product is essential for efficacy; for example, thrips eggs laid in the soil remain out of reach.
Advanced Formulation for Maximum Performance
Sumifly® is formulated as an OD (Oil Dispersion), meaning the fungal spores are suspended in a fine oil-based liquid.
Why does this matter?
The OD formulation offers:
- Better adhesion of fungal spores to insects and leaves
- Longer-lasting activity and improved stability
- Greater efficacy compared to traditional powder-based products (e.g., WP or wettable powders)
In short, Sumifly® delivers superior adhesion, powerful insect control, and extended effectiveness. The oil-based formulation ensures even crop coverage and a higher probability of successful infection — a reliable solution for practical biological pest control.
Mode of Action
Sumifly® works naturally through fungal spores that target harmful insects in four stages:
-
Adhesion – Spores land on the insect's body.
-
Germination – Spores germinate and penetrate the insect, which then stops feeding and reproducing.
-
Growth inside the insect – The fungus proliferates within the insect, disrupting vital functions and causing paralysis and death.
-
Spore production – New spores develop on the cadaver and can infect other insects, allowing the cycle to continue naturally.
Thanks to this biological process, Sumifly® ensures sustainable pest suppression – without the use of chemicals.
